Lately I’ve been going to church on an almost daily basis after probably a 2-year break. I find it almost ironic that someone I know, who isn’t Catholic, is more eager to attend church than me. She probably loves this church more than I’ll ever do. Hmmm… I appreciate the Neo-Byzantine architecture but can’t help […]
Category: Concrete Jungle
This mural seems pretty new, probably done to commemorate SG50. I’m unable to get any pings online on this mural or the artist(s) responsible for it. The mural depicts scenes of the past in Jalan Besar, which includes New World Amusement Park, heritage shophouses and transportation mode of yesteryears. The mural extends to merge with imagery associated […]
“Children on a Bicycle” is one of Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic’s iconic street art in Penang, and is really popular with tourists. There was a group of Chinese national tourists hogging the mixed media graffiti for their numerous selfies when all of a sudden an old man speeds down the road nonchalantly at top speed, […]
I was looking through my archives when I spotted this picture from my last trip to NYC in 2013. Guggenheim is one of my favorite museums, both for its collection of art works as well as the building itself. I like how easy the circular ramp slope leads you up to the top of the […]
No Entry
Once again I’m peeping into places I’m not supposed to… A warehouse somewhere in Jurong. Picture taken with Fujifilm X-T1 and the XF 35mm f/1.4R
View from Bukit Bendera
The aerial view of the urban development on Penang island can be pretty awesome when viewed from the top of Penang Hill, also known locally as Bukit Bendera. On my way up the hill via the funicular, I met a Malaysian who was touring Penang, expressing his disappointment that the tram-ride up was devoid of decent […]
Stairways to the Sky
It was a slow Saturday afternoon. I didn’t plan for anything much. I was walking aimlessly around the rooftop garden at Orchard Central when I chanced upon this sculpture by Victor Tan. This sculpture is part of a series of 5 figures contoured from steel wires, titled “The Stair, The Clouds and The Sky” that dot […]
The Road Ahead
You really can’t see much of the traffic in front. It was such a horrible downpour, but I’m not sure if it’s the worse so far for this year’s monsoon season. I guess in a way it’s similar to my experience this year. An adventure into the unknown, a thick misty fog… Somewhat frightening, yet […]
Analog Toronto
There’s always a special place in my heart for Toronto. Strangely the city reminded me of home, for whatever odd reason, when I was studying in Buffalo. My return to this city reminded me how much has changed over the years. There’s even more new construction around. This city has this perpetual urban redevelopment going […]
Singapore Redux
Every time I’m down at Marina Bay with a camera, the weather plays foul on me. The sky was grey and overcast the day I took this shot too. Weather seems so finicky these days anyway. Well since the sky was of a dreary color, I decided to go along with that and capture the […]
Water Lily
A 40,000 square feet water lily pond surrounds the perimeter of the ArtScience Museum, which not so coincidentally resembles a flower of a water lily. Many people were snapping the lilies, which were at full blossom. The good thing was that most of them were pretty out of reach. I can totally imagine people pulling […]
Manhattan Sunset
In my opinion, the best skyscraper to head to for a good skyline shot of New York City is Rockefeller Center. The reason is simple. You get a shot of the iconic Empire State Building in the picture. Of course, if you’ve only time for one skyscraper to visit, then I suppose it makes more […]
Afternoon in Toronto
This shot was taken before winter descended upon us during a trip up to Toronto. I was asked by the guys in lab what is it like during winter in Singapore. Awkward question… But really, the chill here makes me appreciate the hot and humid weather in Singapore. I know my friends in Singapore beg […]
Glass Palisades
Took this from the front seat of my friend’s car. Drive-by shooting and spontaneity: a perfect combination for a last minute trip up north. Sometimes I feel that crossing the border from US to Canada is somewhat like going to Malaysia from Singapore. Buffalo is like Woodlands… Where things are “cheaper”. Hmm… Maybe the factory […]
The Optical Shop
A pretty retro signage. Don’t see people putting up the spectacles logo to indicate they’re an optical store since the mid 90s.
Dawn to Dusk
It’s been a rough week for me. I lost everything in my academic life overnight. Not everyone gives a deal about it, or is capable of empathizing with my plight. I lost the goodwill and patience to be nice to people. Much less the effort to address a misunderstanding. Rough days happen to people all […]
Do you know this library was the original Lockwood Library before the bulk of UB shifted to the North campus?
Danger Zone
You’re fenced out and off-limits. But is there any construction going on behind that fence?
That’s the furthest my Mum allowed me to photograph the Flatiron. She didn’t understand what’s so fancy about a narrow pointy building. Oh well… I’ve got to photograph it up close the next time I’m there. P.S.: I photographed this early in the morning. Chelsea doesn’t really experience that much traffic in the morning.
I don’t particularly fancy creepers. They just creep me out! Haha… Anyway it’s such a coincidence that the homeowner returned home just as I was trying to snap a shot of the house. The creepers do give the house a gardenly feel, but I’d rather my house be creeper-free. P.S.: There is a road […]
