Pigeons’ Bath

A communal activity these pigeons seem to enjoy early in the morning… It does look rather fancy how they each took turns, two at a go, in a pretty civilized queue to rinse their feathers in water at a pond.   Picture taken with the Nikon D800 and Zeiss Makro-Planar 100mm f/2 ZF lens.

White Water Lily

I’ve always wondered how do lotuses and water lilies thrive in the murkiest of waters. They are to me a symbol of endurance, grace and purity. Some might say white water lilies look plain, the pink and purple ones look way more visually enthralling. I beg to differ. Look at how spotless the flower is […]

Purple Blossom

It’s annoying to be caught in the rain while photographing outdoors. But as I review my shots taken after that terrible downpour on that faithful day, I can’t help but admire the glittery raindrops that roll off the petals of the orchids. The raindrops just make the flowers come alive, probably serving as a lifesaver […]

Ginger Flower

I wasn’t expecting to see ginger flowers blooming in the National Orchid Garden. Most people just walk past them, without bothering a second look. When you think of gingers, you usually think of the brownish dirt-covered rhizome root. In today’s modern times, not many of us get the chance to see the entire plant itself, […]

Cattleya Hybrid Orchid

So I was down at the Botanic Garden, which just recently got its UNESCO world heritage site status (yawn.), and the place was filled with orchids. Literally bursting with one single family of flowers, no exaggeration. Well I was there shortly after Singapore’s National Day so no surprise how the place was decked out to […]

Scarlet Skimmer

The Scarlet Skimmer, also known as crimson darter (sounds pretty superhero-y to me), is a species of dragonfly native to Southeast Asia. I saw plenty of these during my visits to the Singapore Botanic Garden… But not so often do I see one perched from a leaf right next to me. Picture taken with the […]

View from Bukit Bendera

The aerial view of the urban development on Penang island can be pretty awesome when viewed from the top of Penang Hill, also known locally as Bukit Bendera. On my way up the hill via the funicular, I met a Malaysian who was touring Penang, expressing his disappointment that the tram-ride up was devoid of decent […]

Is the shot worth risking life over?

So I was just casually surfing the net, checking out non-serious news on my day off from work. Dealing with world news, albeit in picture format, makes me reluctant to surf anything but casual quirky reads. I was going about reading Jezebel, a blog known for its feminist content, when I chanced upon an entry on a […]

Into the Blue

There’s nothing more therapeutic than spending some quiet time by the sea… Waters look pristine and pretty shallow, possibly due to low tide. Picture taken in the middle of Mid-Sea Road (海中道路) showing Kinbu Bay (金武湾) on Okinawa island.

Orchids at Sunset

Nothing beats the golden hues of light at sunset… The picture was captured after a rain at around 5pm in the National Orchid Garden. Who says you need strobes and flashes to creatively light your subjects? Nothing beats the flattering distribution of sunlight, unless ahem… The dastardly noon light. But even that is not entirely […]

When turtles meet

I was at the Singapore Botanic Garden, photographing specifically orchids, as I usually do. I wasn’t expecting myself to shoot anything apart from flowers so I coupled my D800 with my macro lens along with my X-Pro1 (for anything else). On my way out of the garden, I caught sight of a kid feeding bread […]

Manza Beach

Found the perfect view at a quiet spot after viewing Cape Manzamo… The view from the cliffs overlooks the beach and the ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort. The white boat on the far left looks to me like a semi-submarine. It’s funny how most of the tourist hog the view of Cape Manzamo but seemed […]

Choco

Choco, the beagle with long luscious eyelashes who’s often found in a corner in a pensive mood. No idea what’s on his mind though… Choco was an excitable, extroverted dog when he was younger. Not sure if his change to a more introverted temperament has to do with maturity…

Gaze

I can’t ever get angry with my hamster. Then again, I don’t have much of a temper with animals. I do wish I had the same level of patience and concern with people as I do with animals. It’s tough being mad at a cute-looking critter though. My hamster was arranging “crop circles” of bedding […]

Hamster

My dearest hamster who is formally known as Felix, and casually known as Animoo (Moo Moo at times). How we ended up with a variety of nicknames for this furry critter is lost on me. Then again I’m fond of nicknames myself and have countless aliases under my belt. This photo is taken with my […]

Maid of the Mist

Double rainbow spotted this time! Maid of the Mist is the definite experience for tourists visiting Niagara Falls. Although the ferry operates on both the American and Canadian side, I personally felt the Canadian ride brought me closer to the Falls. It’s a great feeling having a high pressured face wash. Alas the sediments the […]

Crossing Ma Oya

The majestic Asian elephant crosses the Ma Oya river during morning bath time. The waters of the river are rather rough though, but the elephants take it in the stride like a walk in the park.

Elephant Trio

I wonder what sort of relationship these three elephants share… I was at the Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka looking at the elephants taking their morning bath by the Ma Oya river. I was here a long time ago, when I was a kid. The memories back there were hazy… But now that I’m […]

The Garden Lion

This looks like something right out of Narnia. Anyway it was pretty dark when I got to the Cloud Forest section of Gardens by the Bay. When I got to the back of the man-made waterfall, it was around close to 7.30pm. I took this at a shutter speed of 1/13 on my new monopod, […]

Blushing Brides

These flowers are known as blushing brides (serruria floribunda). The stems look rather thorny while the flowers remind me of dandelions. I do wonder if this plant is a desert native.
