Cherry Blossoms

My Mum does not believe these are cherry blossoms, she calls them pink little flowers. In fact, she didn’t even notice them. But who could’ve blamed her? Cherry blossoms are stereotyped with Spring in Japan. No one would be expecting to see loads of them in North America. They are pretty flowers indeed, especially if […]

Maple Leaves

I’m still trawling through the holiday photos. Yes… I’m working pretty slowly on it and I only check back on it once in a long while. Frankly I’ve not been shooting much these days. The last time I’ve been out shooting was in late September. Oh well… My photographic productivity is at an all time […]

As I looked up…

I was welcomed by the cool summer breeze and the lush canopy of maple trees. Life’s better during summer.

Maple Brownie

I’ve realized that Maple is a very versatile ingredient in the kitchen. You can have it on your waffles, add it to your tea/coffee as a sweetener or glaze (turkey) drumsticks with it. Of course it makes a fine addition to your regular brownie. I don’t particularly notice the taste of the maple in the […]

Snails are always delightful on the platter. I don’t mind having more. 🙂

Desert Blooms

Cacti always surprise me with their attractive flowers. The Jardin botanique de Montréal has a sizable collection of cacti in its greenhouse. It’s an attraction worth visiting. Not voted the number one attraction in Montréal on TripAdvisor for no reason…

Traditional beef stew with carrots

The red wine sauce is darn strong… I’d prefer less of it. Nonetheless it was a great dish. The chunks of beef were super tender. 🙂

Duck Confit

Surprisingly I’ve never been to a French restaurant before. Delifrance does not count. French cuisine is pretty much a new thing for me… I hadn’t had the interest in it, partially because I had the impression that it is expensive, out of my budget. But the food at Le Bourlingueur is well priced. I’m definitely […]

Sandwich Supreme

A really huge sandwich/bun. Haha… I wonder how I ate it without separating it into half. I had my reservations having my breakfast there because almost everything on the menu was in French. French is quite an intimidating language. But I suppose I can get away with not knowing French in Montréal.

Butterfly Pollination

Up close and personal! It’s really a rare opportunity for me to witness a butterfly extracting nectar from a flower. I use to think it’s hard to attain these shots. But it was relatively easy for me as most of the butterflies there were keeping still and extracting nectar.

Giant Butterfly

I swear that butterfly is bigger than my face. It is so darn huge. So hairy/furry, so scary… Some things are better off petite.

Yard of Ale

Oh the horror!!! I thought I had ordered 2 bottles of beer, not a yard! Somehow H was more excited than me… First timer excitement? Lucky for us I didn’t order something strong. Anyway, like the French people of France, the people of Montréal down alcohol more than they do for water. I get frowns […]

San Pablo Pizza

Club Sandwich

Got a bit lost walking around Vieux-Montréal when H and I ran into this bistro for our very very late lunch. We were dying of hunger. We were trying to find Pointe-à-Callière Museum and Le Bourlingueur… But found neither! I was quite skeptical of this place, and wasn’t exactly happy with my bill… Though the […]
