Purple Blossom

It’s annoying to be caught in the rain while photographing outdoors. But as I review my shots taken after that terrible downpour on that faithful day, I can’t help but admire the glittery raindrops that roll off the petals of the orchids. The raindrops just make the flowers come alive, probably serving as a lifesaver […]

Ginger Flower

I wasn’t expecting to see ginger flowers blooming in the National Orchid Garden. Most people just walk past them, without bothering a second look. When you think of gingers, you usually think of the brownish dirt-covered rhizome root. In today’s modern times, not many of us get the chance to see the entire plant itself, […]

Cattleya Hybrid Orchid

So I was down at the Botanic Garden, which just recently got its UNESCO world heritage site status (yawn.), and the place was filled with orchids. Literally bursting with one single family of flowers, no exaggeration. Well I was there shortly after Singapore’s National Day so no surprise how the place was decked out to […]

Orchids at Sunset

Nothing beats the golden hues of light at sunset… The picture was captured after a rain at around 5pm in the National Orchid Garden. Who says you need strobes and flashes to creatively light your subjects? Nothing beats the flattering distribution of sunlight, unless ahem… The dastardly noon light. But even that is not entirely […]

Ivory Florets

I was at the National Orchid Garden. The flowers caught my eye. They were part of the shrubbery that no one paid much attention to. After all, the star attractions of the garden are the orchids, not some “random” flower sprouting from some shrub by the side. There were Chinese tourists nearby that shrug in […]

Dendrobium’s Requiem

This photo depicts an orchid I had found on a bench in the National Orchid Garden. I went there thinking I was going to shoot some entries for an orchid photography competition. In the end I didn’t submit photos for the competition because I was pretty ill the entire week. Well, I was actually sick […]

Orchidee Macchiate

I’ll be back to posting photos of orchids. I went down to Botanic Garden yesterday to shoot orchids. It wasn’t the best day to shoot orchids as the weather was terribly hot. Can you believe my glasses fogged up from the heat?  Anyway all these are new materials for my secret project. Which has been […]

The Unlikely Orchids

They look like the last thing you’ll think of that’s an orchid.

Delicado

The flower is incredibly small. It really took patience to get it into the right focus and snap that shot… Without the aid of any VR gizmos. Ah… Using the 55mm micro lens is both a joy and a pain. However, the satisfaction from this lens always makes me favor it over others.

Regret

This orchid is known as the Dendrobrium Roh Moo-hyun. Yes, it was named after the late South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun when he was in Singapore in 2003. Much as he made mistakes that cost him grave consequences, was there not that heavy tinge of regret he felt thereafter that eventually caused his death?

Why?

This flower just screams why. Why is it found in the National Orchid Garden? Is it even an orchid? Actually I’ve no idea what sort of flower it is.

Sepia Memories

When you have so taken so many photos, giving them names so many times over… It’s tempting to just refer to them by their generic file names. Lately I experienced disappointment, but it’s ironic I’ve been told off by that disappointing person that I’d been disappointing.

In Semblance of Cherry Blossoms

When I look at these flowers… They just didn’t exactly make me think of orchids.

Spiralling Orchids

The orchids totally reminded me of pasta.

Gray Matters

I thought the gray background reminded me of x-ray… Nothing to do with the gray matter in my brain, or of the orchid. 😉

Lebullum Prominent

The orchid is a really complex-looking flower. The elongated lip of the flower is a prominent feature that differentiates it from other flowers.

Orchid Dew

The flower looks more like an art sculpture than a living being.
